Mount of Oaks
Vielleicht erinnert sich der eine oder die andere noch an Barbara – vor rund zwanzig Jahren war sie unterwegs in Deutschland und hat verschiedene Jesus-Freaks-Gemeinschaften besucht.
Seitdem ist viel passiert: In Portugal hat sie eine Off-Grid-Permakultur-Gemeinschaft gegründet, zu der in den ersten Jahren viele Freaks gekommen sind – zum Mithelfen, Urlaubmachen oder einfach, um Gemeinschaft zu erleben.
Nach all der Zeit meldet sie sich nun wieder bei uns. Sie erzählt, was aus dem Projekt geworden ist, wie sich das Leben dort entwickelt hat – und lädt Menschen ein, Teil davon zu werden.

Hello dear JF family,
I’m contacting your network again, after 20 years when I travelled around Germany and visited different JF communities.
The following year I started an off-grid permaculture farm here in central Portugal, the Mount of Oaks and many Jesus Freaks joined the first 6 months, and from then on I received possibly hundreds of visits over the years. Whether people would come on holidays or helping to build or garden, it has been a lovely interchange…
Some still come, but they are part of other communities now and not so involved with JF anymore
After all this time we had different groups living in community here, and now it’s me and my wife Emma, from Ireland…
We are still looking for committed guardians of land, looking to live simply following permaculture and regenerative farming methods, building with local and natural materials and following Christ wherever he leads us.
The community in the area has grown a lot and more people from all over the world are moving here, buying land and living similarly…
We are looking for long term residents/guardians, or long-term volunteers ( a few months at least).

I’m a teacher on permaculture design, food forests and natural building. Emma is more of a counsellor and teaches natural medicines, fermenting food and preserving, herbs and foraging, etc.
We look for people with a little experience, whether that is gardening, maintenance, house holding or building.
