The songbook introductory words in English

Dear musician, dear noisemaker, dear worshippers, dear praisers!

This „Liederbuch“ (eng.: songbook) is for you personally and for all of you and for all of us! With a few exceptions, this book is filled with songs that have come out of the Jesus Freaks movement. Many of which you may have heard before – at Freakstock or at a local freak gathering or in the street (?!) – that you can easily sing along to and, now that you have the chords, play yourself. But there’s also a bunch of new songs that you may have never heard live. So it is immensely helpful that as Jesus Freaks we are using this brandnew technology called „Inter-Net“. You can find recordings of many of the songs here:

www.jesusfreaks.de/liederbuch

You can use this website and the „physical songbook“ together: On the website you can listen to and thus learn new songs and download PDFs for your own song folder. The small songbook is handily brought along to play songs at a campfire, downtown or your small group gathering.

In addition to the classic „lyrics with chords“, there’s much more to discover: The songbook contains inspiring and challenging essays by people that are or were part of the Jesus Freaks and care deeply about worship. There is also poetry in there, without chords or notes. Praise doesn’t have to be sung! „Worship“ is not a genre! Why not try what can be made with music that is different from the typical „worship music“! You create electronic music and your best friend reads out psalms or other praise poetry as the whole congregation is raving and worshipping! And in case you’ve got new songs that you would like to sing to the Lord, pencil them down at a good spot on one of the empty pages in the book. There is room for newness and creativity! Use it!

Enjoy!
Sascha & Fabian, March 2016

Speak to each other with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord. Always give thanks to God the Father for everything. Give thanks to him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:19-20 (New Int. Readers Version)

Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
Hebrews 13:15-16 (English Standard Version)

And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
Psalm 40:3 (King James Version)
